What is faux leather?

Faux leather is a versatile material that is very popular in craftsmanship. It has a surface that both feels and looks like real leather, but is manufactured without animal hides. Faux leather is produced from textile fabrics and coated with PVC, polyurethane, or polyester. This method replicates the typical grain structure of leather. Nowadays, it is hardly distinguishable from genuine leather, as faux leather is produced to a very high standard.


What are the advantages of faux leather?

The main advantage of faux leather over real leather is certainly the affordable price. Genuine leather production is very elaborate and costly, often resulting in significant waste due to the natural features of animal hides. Faux leather can be produced very efficiently. Furthermore, faux leather is very robust and durable, as well as weather-resistant against sun and water. It is particularly suitable in the contract sector (gastronomy, medical facilities, etc.) where seating furniture gets dirty quickly and needs frequent cleaning and disinfection.
