What is imitation leather?

Imitation leather is a versatile material that is very popular in craftsmanship. It has a surface that feels and appears like real leather, but is manufactured without animal hides. Imitation leather is made from textile fabrics coated with PVC, polyurethane, or polyester. This process mimics the typical grain structure of leather. Nowadays, it is hard to distinguish imitation leather from genuine leather due to the high quality of production.


What are the advantages of imitation leather?

The main advantage of imitation leather over real leather is certainly the affordable price. Genuine leather production is labor-intensive and costly, often resulting in significant waste due to natural characteristics of the animal hide. In contrast, imitation leather can be produced very economically. Moreover, imitation leather is very durable and resistant to weather, sunlight, and water. It is particularly suitable for use in commercial settings (gastro, medical, etc.) where seating furniture is prone to dirt and needs frequent cleaning and disinfection.
