What is faux leather?

Faux leather is a versatile material widely used in manufacturing and upholstery. Its surface looks and feels like real leather, but it is made without animal hides. Faux leather is produced from textile fabrics coated with PVC, polyurethane, or polyester to imitate the characteristic grain of leather. Modern manufacturing methods can make faux leather difficult to distinguish from genuine leather.


What are the advantages of faux leather?

The main advantage of faux leather over genuine leather is its lower price. Genuine leather production is complex and expensive, and natural variations in animal hides can result in considerable material waste. Faux leather, on the other hand, can be manufactured economically. It is also robust and durable, offering resistance to sunlight and water. It is well suited to commercial settings such as restaurants and bistros, where seating is prone to becoming dirty and requires frequent cleaning and disinfection.
