What is Viennese wickerwork?

The material of Viennese wickerwork is obtained from the woody shoots of the Rotang palm (also known as rattan), or more precisely, the soft inner part of the liana. The outermost skin is peeled off and the first layer is processed into chair cane. The cane sticks are pressed and cut into braidable strands. The material is valued for its elasticity and at the same time particularly strong and robust properties.
